"Sorry" Sculpture By Gemma Garcia

SORRY

Nine months working with this Sculpture....

Her name is "Sorry" and this sculpture has so many levels of metaphoric meaning...
The relation with Frida:

Ftida is Mexican, so, the name of "sorry" is, because I want to say sorry to  the Mexican people...( like Australia did to the Aboriginal people). I am Spanish, and the Spanish people, we robbed (long time ago) to the Mexican people gold and we invaded their culture. So, Sorry in name of the all ESPANOLES!

Also, the sculpture has a link with Frida's life, The sculpture is pregnat (she never could had babies), the flowers that Frida was wearing all the time in her hair, I transferred to the dress, also Frida was writing a Diary, My sculpture has a Diary (altered book) with drawings of Frida's paintings, with a broken ceramic heart...

The link with of the "sorry" sculpture with my personal process:
The Frida's ceramic face has not mouth, like all my artworks (due my difficulty with the English languaje), but, because I think Frida was telling all the time the truth, I permitted her to talk between her chakra....

The complete sculpture body is created with a lot of letters (paper) how she did to Diego, I was writting to her severals letters, during the construction of the sculpture...

Frida shape is a "Koala" why? Because it is my way to "integrate" a sculpture of my vision of a Mexican artist in Australian, being Australian!

I hope you enjoy this piece!

Love
Gemma
